All Ages: Youth must remain under adult supervision
A rotating series of six practical skill disciplines. Join at any point and progress through beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels. No experience necessary.
Note: The initial workshop series (MarchβMay) will be held in the Middletown area with indoor and covered sessions. Once outdoor temperatures reach the high 60s to low 70s, we'll expand to additional Connecticut locations for outdoor activities including fishing and kayaking.
Measuring, tool safety, lumber types, and load understanding. Build practical skills with hands-on practice.
Rod and reel basics, saltwater vs freshwater, bait techniques, and conservation ethics.
Kayak parts, safety fundamentals, water reading, and launching techniques with gear demo.
Real-world money management: budgeting, saving, investing, and credit myths vs truth.
Soil basics, sunlight mapping, plant selection, and New England seasonal timing.
Safe trip planning, weather prep, emergency basics, and situational awareness.
Each topic cycles through 4 progressive levels:

Topics: Parts of a kayak, safety basics (PFDs & weather awareness), reading water, launching and landing fundamentals.
Activity: Knot tying and paddle grip practice.

Topics: Rod and reel basics, salt vs freshwater differences, bait vs artificial techniques, conservation and ethics.
Activity: Tie a simple knot and rig demonstration.

Topics: Where money actually goes, budget basics, credit myths vs truth, saving vs investing.
Activity: Group "Build a Budget" exercise with real-life scenarios. No fluff. Real numbers. Real life.

Topics: Measuring correctly, tool safety, types of lumber, understanding load and support.
Activity: Measure-and-mark challenge with practical application.
APPLICATION MONTH β Deepening Knowledge

Topics: Planning a safe outdoor trip, weather preparation, emergency basics, situational awareness.
Activity: Pack a day-bag scenario exercise.

Topics: Soil basics, sunlight mapping, plant selection, seasonal timing specific to New England.
Activity: Seed-start tray demo or soil comparison hands-on exercise.
After May 12, the workshop series cycles back through all six topics with deeper, more advanced layers. Each skill rotates through beginner, intermediate, real-world scenarios, and open skill labs. You can join at any point in the cycle.
